Film history — the public record

Finished work first. Then footage never released as a titled picture. Then work left unfinished at his death. Then credits that are not films he directed. Pictures made about him are listed last, separately.

Finished

Unheard Voices (1990) — Producer and videographer. Co-producer Nancy Juliber. Pax Global. About 16 minutes. Children of the Salvadoran civil war. Screened for members of Congress. Helped move wounded children to the U.S. for surgery. DVD at Wheaton College / Buswell Library.

Footage not released as a commercial title

Ground Zero / 9-11 firefighter footage (2001) — Cameraman. Shot for Oakland Fire Department training and a fundraiser for widows and children of firefighters and police. No commercial title found.

Kellogg fellowship field tapes (1980s–90s) — Interviewer / cameraman. Travel interviews with activists worldwide. No single public feature title.

Unfinished at his death (May 2003)

Tibet — restoration of Buddhist monasteries. Mongolia — street children. Cuba — a planned peace walk. Named in the Chronicle obituary. Not released. Do not list fake years or running times.

Not films he directed

SimCity 2000 (1993–95) — special technical assistance, Oakland Fire Department. The Crystal Skull (1996) — location photography. Fire Ruin Renewal (2011 IMDb cinematographer line) — Ray had been gone eight years; treat as archival or a bad database line until confirmed.

Made in his honor — not his filmography

The Light You Left Behind (2026) — Dir. Domingo Corral / Good Day Productions. About 7 min 38 sec. Musical tribute using Ray’s own footage. A salute, not a substitute for Unheard Voices.

Keepsakes — Bomberos / Fruitvale ofrenda

Two downloads for the altar. The large print is a memorial composite — Ray’s shrine photograph with the 9-11 structure placed behind the wall. It is not a photograph taken at Ground Zero.
